Brother Gerry inspects a frame from one of the hives.

A honeybee can fly up to about 15 miles per hour when searching for food. When it is returning to the hive and is laden with nectar, its speed is only about 12 miles per hour. It beats its four wings at a constant rate of about 240 beats per second.
